Volunteer Opportunities at City Care

Services

City Care exists to do the work few others are willing to do. We believe in the intrinsic value of every person, and it is with love and compassion we advocate for the overlooked in our community. We provide food for the hungry, relief for the hurting, and hold space for the complete restoration of lives that have gotten off course. With enough endurance, we witness firsthand remarkable stories of transformation.

Hospitality: Morning Shift (6am-8am) - volunteers assist guests with checking out, gathering their belongings, and additional things the staff may need help with. Evening Shift (5:30pm-7:30pm), volunteers assist guests with checking in, finding their bunk for the night, or helping serve dinner, if needed.

Dinner Program: Knowing that sleeping on an empty stomach is difficult, we want to provide dinner as often as possible to ensure a good night's rest for our guests. Dinner Volunteers should plan to feed at least 140 hungry guests.

Whiz Kids Volunteers: Whiz Kids is focused on serving the whole child: academically, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Whiz Kids is caring for students who are reading below grade level, navigating inequitable systems and circumstances, and could benefit most from a mentor relationship with a compassionate adult. Mentors spend two hours each week building a relationship with their students and confidence in their literacy skills.

Different Volunteer Roles at Whiz Kids:

  • Food Team

  • Transportation

  • Mentor

  • Substitute Mentor

Welcome Baskets: Our Supportive Communities program provides affordable and permanent supportive housing to folks transitioning out of homelessness. Nothing says, "Welcome home," like a basket filled with personalized home essentials that our residents will need when transitioning out of chronic homelessness and into stable housing.

Job Training: Our Case Management Advocates help residents address life skills, including job readiness and vocational rehabilitation. If you have a professional skill or expertise you're passionate about, we can utilize that talent for our Supportive Communities residents.

Special Events Team: We have a variety of special events at City Care throughout the year. From our annual golf tournament to program-specific events,  we would love to have you serve alongside us.

Administrative Team: Do you love details and organization? Our staff is looking for individuals with flexible schedules to help with administrative tasks. This would include, but is not limited to, stuffing envelopes, organizing donations, and other tasks as needed.
